On the weekend of 7-9 June, 24 intrepid 19NX Cubs and their leaders joined Cubs from around Durham County at Moor House for the biennial Cubboree. The theme for 2024 was a weekend at the circus. For the first time since the pandemic, it was back to its usual 2-night format, with an opening event and wide game followed by a party on the main stage on Friday night. Saturday morning was an early start for breakfast and then a full day of activities such as mountain biking, bushcrafts (lighting and cooking on campfires), cave bus, bungee trampolines, archery, crossbow, tomahawk throwing, crate stacking, tree climbing, (the new improved) toboggan run, inflatables, creative zone, Diggerland, laser quest, The Cube, fun fair, and for those who wanted some peace and quiet, time in the wellbeing tent.
After dinner in the big tent, there was evening entertainment with some amazing Japanese circus performers and campfire on the main stage. For those who wanted a more relaxing activity, the Super Mario Brothers movie was shown in the Moor House cinema. Another party on the main stage was followed by an “early” bedtime as everyone was exhausted by a long day at Cubboree.
Sunday was another early start for breakfast in the big tent followed by a morning of getting to the activities that Cubs missed on the Saturday. They said goodbye with a Final Act on the main stage, followed by a quick packed lunch. Cubs packed up, put away some of their tents, played a few final wide games and all too soon Cubboree was over. Groans could be heard from the Cubs as they walked with their kit up to the layby to meet their Carers and go home, with many tales of their adventurous weekend.
